Volkswagen is driving forward its major product offensive in the mid-sized class with pre-sales of the new ID.7 Tourer. Following the new ID.7 fastback saloon, new Passat and new Tiguan, the first all-electric Volkswagen estate-car is already the fourth new mid-sized model in just a few months. The business and leisure all-rounder can now be configured and ordered at prices starting at 54,795 euros. As one of just a few manufacturers, Volkswagen is present on the European market with three estate models in the important upper mid-sized class: the sporty Arteon Shooting Brake, the completely newly developed Passat Variant and the ID.7 Tourer. With this model range, Volkswagen offers all relevant drive types in the mid-sized class and thus a particularly large choice for customers.

When Lamborghini first introduced the Urus SUV, critics and pundits were skeptical. It was seen more as a trend than a legitimate performance car. Little did they know how popular this sporty, compact V8-powered SUV with 657 hp would prove: After just six years, in 2023 it accounted for 60% of Lamborghini’s sales, selling more than 6,000 units.<br/><br/>Last week, Lamborghini introduced a redesign of the Urus that’s intended to continue the trend. The redesigned Urus is designated “SE:” “S” indicates the S trim of the SUV and “E” designates the addition of a plug-in electric power train. The idea behind this technology is to boost the performance of the gas engine with a jolt of electricity.<br/><br/>The Urus SE plug-in hybrid electric adds a 25.9 kWh electric system to the V8 engine of the S model, taking the SUV’s horsepower from 657 to 789. A group of friends have brought their skills together to transform an old-school Volkswagen Beetle, named Tope, in order to take part in one of the world’s most ruthless races. The Baja 1000 is a Mexican desert race which takes place annually in the Baja California Peninsula. It’s the longest point to point off-road race in the world, that's run in a single day. Josh McGuckin, one of Tope's mechanics, explained how much of a challenge preparing for the race was for the team. He told FutureStudiosCars: “Driving this car in the Baja 1000 can be summed up for me in one word, exhausting.” To an outsider the car would appear as just a “really old bugg” but once inside, “suddenly it just comes to life”. Starting with the VW Beetle was a huge undertaking for the team, as they had to modify the classic 1970 car to be suitable for the incredibly harsh conditions. However, the extreme nature of this race did take its toll on the well-loved vehicle, “every time you come back from a race, you’re constantly rebuilding and replacing everything”, Josh explained. The bugg may not be the fastest car, but it’s capable of doing the job for this team. And the teamwork paid off as Tope triumphantly reached the finish line. Josh spoke about his relief and elation, “every time we race this car, we learn something new.\
