Description: ITN was the first commercial broadcaster to cover a general election in the UK. The ITV network provided election night coverage ITN in London. ITV was given permission by the Independent Television Authority to use all of the ITV companies on air in 1959 for election links to the main studio in London. Ian Trethowan was the presenter for the ITV coverage that saw Conservative, Harold Macmillian elected as PM.
