Description: The 'Thappu' is a traditional South Indian drum made with goat skin stretched on a circular frame. It is played with two sticks and finds it's place in nearly all ceremonies, specially in rural regions of South India. In Mauritius and among the world wide Tamil diaspora, the Thappu is mainly used in religious ceremonies. The 'Thappu' was brought to Mauritius by our ancestors hailing from the southern parts of India. This is a small clip recorded during the 'Fire Walking Ceremony' in Port-Louis.
